Ari Meisel: Make Everything in Life Easier

Ari Meisel is an author, speaker, coach and the creator of Less Doing, More Living, a set of practices and principles designed to help the overwhelmed become more effective. He’s appeared in The New York Times, Mashable, the Huffington Post and TED.Ā Ari had to workĀ hisĀ way up to get where he is now. At the age of 23 heĀ was diagnosed with an incurable chronic condition called Crohnā€™s disease. His workĀ Less Doing, More Living is the result of hisĀ journey of back to health by optimizing, automating and outsourcing everything in his life.Ā Ari says: “For any challenge, the first thing to do is optimize it.”

The diseaseĀ was the point whenĀ Ari started to take his health seriously. After 4 months of self-experimentation and self-tracking he was able to getĀ off of his meds,Ā and 3 months after he was competing for his first triathlon. TheĀ complete recovery from Crohn’s disease as well as brilliant career as a productivityĀ coach demonstrates the powerĀ of Less Doing.

Ari emphasizes 9 elements of the Less Doing system:

  • The 80/20 rule or Pareto’s law
  • Creating an external brain
  • Customization
  • Choose your own work week
  • Stop running errands
  • Batching
  • Organization
  • Finance
  • Wellness

Ari also shares some productivity hacks, that helped him to get more done. For example, heĀ recommends to identify your prime time, the 90 minutes time of the day when you areĀ most productive. You are up toĀ 100 times more effective than anyĀ other time of the day. The key is to know when exactly that time is, and apply it in your work.

Here’s how you calculate your peak time:Ā you measureĀ your energy level for at least 3Ā weeks and observe theĀ time whenĀ it spikes. Your ā€œbiological prime timeā€ is the time of the day when you have the most energy, and therefore the greatest potential to be productive.
